Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Business Strategy
Social responsibility is an integral part of the company’s long-term strategy. Our ambition, which we fulfil every year, is to effect positive change wherever possible. We focus primarily on activities that have an impact on our employees, clients, and the public.
We have been operating on the market as a stable Czech insurance company for more than 30 years, thanks to the trust of our clients and partners. By the nature of its business, an insurance company is a responsible entity, because the principle of insurance is nothing less than offering help in need, solidarity in difficult life situations, mutual trust, and responsibility. Hence, part of our philosophy is to invest into beneficial initiatives and products or services, thus reflecting the principles of responsibility and sustainability. We also emphasise the importance of social impact, which can be verified and measured.

PREVENTION AND RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
Prevention
Prevention is the starting point of our strategic CSR pyramid, on which all other activities are based. We understand prevention as the prevention of adverse situations in all areas of insurance - property and liability, personal and car insurance, and elsewhere.
In 2020, the flagship in the field of prevention was the VISION 0 Platform, which aims for zero fatalities and severely injured on Czech roads. We also focused intensively on the area of telematics, i.e., technology that allows us to evaluate driver behaviour on the road and then provide feedback. Our testing and data evaluation confirmed that the implementation of telematics elements into insurance has the potential to significantly reduce accident rates, especially for young drivers.
VISION 0 Platform
In 2018, the Kooperativa Foundation established the VISION 0 Platform, which functions as a non-commercial community of entities that support each other, coordinate projects, and share information and experience. The aim of this platform is to achieve systemic and conceptual changes in the field of transport safety.
Young and beginners drivers
Cyclists and motorcyclists
Senior citizens
Whiplash syndrome
Other projects
Media coverage of key topics of traffic safety
YOUNG AND BEGINNERS DRIVERS
Even in 2021, we supported several projects concerning one of the riskiest groups in traffic: young and beginner level drivers.
CYCLISTS AND MOTORCYCLISTS
We support projects aimed at a vulnerable group of cyclists and motorcyclists.
SENIOR CITIZENS
We contribute to higher safety of drivers over 60 years of age. We offer them safe driving courses, as well as playful theatre lectures.
WHIPLASH SYNDROME
We do not risk our necks. We raise awareness about the whiplash syndrome, its early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
OTHER PROJECTS
We educate emergency services drivers. We strive to increase traffic safety by modifying road signs.
MEDIA COVERAGE OF KEY TOPICS OF TRAFFIC SAFETY
We participate in intensive communication and media coverage of key traffic safety topics.
Received awards and further cooperation
AUSTRIAN BUSINESS CIRCLE
In November, we attended a meeting of the Austrian Business Circle with our "Green Insurance'' contribution. The main organiser Advantage Austria supports business entities under the auspices of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. By sharing examples of our experiences, we were not only able to show good practice in the field of sustainability in the insurance industry, we also gained interesting insights into the concept of sustainability in other areas of business.
ZÁCHRANNÝ KRUH ASSOCIATION (RESCUE CIRCLE ASSOCIATION)
Rescue Circle Association brings preventive educational projects that can save lives.
WEATHER WARNING
We provide a free weather warning service for our clients. It can determine the risk of adverse weather according to the location of the insured property, thus preventing the consequences of natural events.
In 2021, Kooperativa won the second place in Hospodářské noviny's Best Bank and Best Insurance Company poll in the Best Life Insurance Company category and third place in the Most Client-Friendly Life Insurance Company category. The competition is open to banks and insurance companies that can offer their clients the most advantageous products and services, communicate well with them, are accessible to them and show good economic results. The project promotes the development of the banking and insurance sector and provides the public with a comprehensive picture of the financial market to help them better navigate the products and services on offer.
The 20th annual Bank of the Year survey brought Kooperativa the title of Mastercard Insurance Company of the Year 2021.
"I am very pleased to receive the Insurance Company of the Year 2021 award. Moreover, in a year when it was once again confirmed how important the position of insurance companies in society is. After the devastating tornado and hailstorm, which hit South Moravia in particular, they immediately activated their teams and started paying claims. So far, they have paid out several billion crowns to clients to restore their property. My thank you and this award go to all colleagues who are involved in the care of our clients," said Martin Diviš, Kooperativa's CEO.
Responsible business
To us, responsibility in business means transparency in relation to all stakeholders, ethical conduct comporting with a code of ethics, and investment in opportunities that are effective not only financially, but also socially and environmentally.
Supporting social entrepreneurship
We strive to support social entrepreneurship in the long term, in particular by awarding as many corporate contracts as possible to companies that are responsible, i.e. by employing people with disabilities. We manage by either working directly together on various projects or within the supply chain, where we try to use as many subcontracting companies as possible.
Café: Social entrepreneurship support
In October, we opened a new café: Mezi řádky (Between the Lines), run by the Etincelle Group (a group of social enterprises that helps people with disabilities enter the labour market). Our baristas are people with mental or combined disabilities who want to participate in the workforce and show us that they are beneficial to themselves and others. Every day, the world of healthy people and people with various limitations is interconnected in our café. The café, which is open not only to employees but also to the public, offers delicious coffee from its own roastery, savoury and sweet pastries from its artisan bakery and desserts from master pastry chef.

Substitute performance: Social entrepreneurship support
As an employer who values diversity, we are constantly looking for opportunities to offer employment to everyone without distinction - including people with disabilities or disadvantages. Secondarily, we also do this by cooperating through substitute fulfilment with social enterprises that employ people with disabilities. Last year we cooperated with 30 companies across Czechia.
Sustainability Conference
We are not indifferent to the fate of our planet, which is why we have become the main green partner of the Sustainable Conference in 2021. Linking business sustainability and start-ups is a way we can encourage green behaviour and activities aimed at reducing our carbon footprint.
The first conference on 6th May 2021 focused on general insights into climate change issues and introducing interesting startups, numbers and solutions from technology companies.

The second conference on 25th November 2021 focused on waste sorting and recycling. Established companies and start-ups presented how to reduce the production of excess waste.

The idea of the year
In 2021, we partnered with the Idea of the Year competition who helps ideas to grow.

It only takes 30 seconds for the czezch made Aireen device to scan the retina and make a detailed diagnosis of the patient. Thanks to the Aireen device, Jan Hlaváček's team won this year's Vodafone Idea of the Year competition, which was attended by over 140 innovative projects from Czechia and Slovakia.

As part of the 14th annual awards ceremony, the jury honoured new entrepreneurs, innovators and companies with the best ideas that have the potential to change the world. The overall first place and the Profinit Award for Technology Start-up of the Year went to Jan Hlaváček with his diagnostic device Aireen for non-invasive, painless, and quick detection of chronic diagnoses. This enables early detection of diseases during the initial contact with the doctor. Aireen has already been successfully used by several specialist departments. The Aireen project has also been awarded a special Kooperativa Prize.
The year 2021 belonged to the regular Inno Days professional meetings. In the first half of the year we learned from experts how to protect ourselves in our business. The topic was fraud prevention in the insurance industry in the 21st century. At the end of the year, the fifth Inno Days meeting was held on a topic that directly or indirectly affects us all. Electromobility, or more specifically, electric cars vs. fossil fuel powered cars after the important deadline for the automotive industry, which is 2035.

ECOLOGY AND SUSTAINABILITY

When we talk about sustainability, we do not mean just sustainability of natural resources and environmental impact, for we also focus on long-term sustainability values such as fairness, transparency, and compliance with European and domestic regulators.

Ecology

Although we are not a manufacturing company that directly harms the environment through our activities, we are aware of the effect on our surroundings and have long been working to minimize any negative impact, whether it relates to the operation of buildings, vehicles or the activities of our employees. We strive to find sustainable environmental solutions in many areas, focusing particularly on ensuring sustainable solutions in the operation of our buildings, in the handling of IT equipment, as well as the use of flood maps in property insurance, and as much as possible the use of electronic communication instead of paper.
Carbon footprint

Carbon footprint
Since 2018, we have had our carbon footprint measured to quantify the impact of human activity on the environment and climate change. In the future, we want to focus on reducing fuel and electricity consumption. Kooperativa is currently continuously expanding and renewing its fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles.
2018: 2 electric vehicles, 2 hybrid vehicles
2019: 2 electric vehicles, 7 hybrid vehicles
2020: 5 electric vehicles, 8 hybrid vehicles
2021: 6 electric vehicles, 9 hybrid vehicles
In 2021, Kooperativa produced 11 561 t CO2e*

We are not only green by our logo, but also by our commitment to "green" transport solutions. As in the years before, also in 2021 employees were able to use Rekola free of charge for private travel. In addition to Prague, it was also possible to use Rekola for free in Brno, Olomouc and České Budějovice.

A total of 1 480 rides were accomplished.

Waste sorting/recycling
Remobil
Electronics
In 2021, we donated 306 pieces of discarded but still functional IT equipment to schools, non-profit organisations, orphanages, foundations or single parents. Most of them were written off after 5 years of use. Specifically, we donated 125 personal computers and 181 LCD screens. In addition, our IT technicians also added keyboards and computer mice so that users would not have to deal with additional expenses and could use the technology immediately, such as single-parent families for online learning.
Waste sorting/recycling
At headquarters, we are continuing our intensive elimination of mixed waste. We have supported the sorting into 92 large capacity bins by reducing the number of mixed waste bins by 80 % during the year. The amount of sorted waste naturally increased.

Towards the end of the year, we supported large buildings in the regions with 39 large capacity waste sorting bins. We will continue this trend in the future to eliminate the amount of mixed waste produced to a minimum.

Remobil
We have teamed up with Remobil, a non-profit organisation that helps collect old and unwanted mobile phones from companies, municipalities, schools and elsewhere. You can see how it all works in this video. We have placed collection bins in selected branches and at the Kooperativa headquarters where employees and our clients can hand in their unwanted mobile phones from 1 February to 31 March 2021. In addition, Remobil contributes CZK 10 for each discarded device to the Jedlička Institute and schools. The Kooperativa Foundation did not stay behind and doubled the amount.

Sustainability

In our view, sustainability is far more than just an issue of the environment or changes due to the climate crisis. We take account of the environmental context in terms of products, employee education and information for our clients. We also strive for sustainability in finance, investments, and communication with clients. We carefully examine all regulations, follow current developments in legislation, and meet all requirements.

Sustainable finance

In 2021, in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/2088, we published information on our website regarding sustainability in financial services, which we update regularly in accordance with current legislation. In the long term, Kooperativa is guided by the VIG Investment and Risk Strategy, which defines the investment options, including the environmental and moral aspects of the investments.
You can find what percentage of general insurance premiums we receive from insurance services that can be useful in this way. We refer to such premiums as eligible for the taxonomy under EU Regulation 2020/852, the Taxonomy.

The way Kooperativa treats its assets can also affect the environment. We provide information on what part of the Kooperativa’ s assets could contribute to climate change adaptation or mitigation. We refer to such assets as eligible for a taxonomy under EU Regulation 2020/852, the so-called taxonomy.

The Green Product
When creating the new FLEXI 21 life insurance product, we also thought about the sustainability of our financial services. Under the investment option of the insurance, it is possible to invest in ERSTE RESPONSIBLE BOND or ERSTE WWF STOCK ENVIRONMENT green funds, in accordance with Articles 8 and 9 of the EU Regulation 2019/2088. Our customers can thus choose an investment method that is environmentally friendly and fair to society, or even directly contributes to their protection.
Communication of reminders
The combination of the internal steps of reminding the client that he is in delay with the payment of insurance premiums and the enforcement action that addresses the repayment of the debt is set up in a unique way at Kooperativa with an emphasis on a pro-client approach. The key is to provide the client with a regular payment reminder service in the most convenient form for the client so that the insurance policy does not lapse for non-payment and the client remains, ideally, a satisfied customer.

DIVERSITY AND FLEXIBILITY IN RELATION TO EMPLOYEES

Equal opportunities for everybody and fair treatment of all employees are the alpha and omega of our HR philosophy.
No matter how challenging the times get, our primary focus is to be an employer that consistently honours all aspects of diversity and demonstrates this in our day-to-day operations. We strive to live up to our ambition to be an employer of choice, while at the same time being a company that prides itself on the loyalty of its male and female employees of all ages.

Also in 2021, we have made sure to offer our people the widest possible range of flexible working arrangements, while keeping in mind the mental and physical health and lifestyle of our colleagues. Although most learning and development opportunities - both professional and soft skills - continued to be available mainly in an online environment, we continually updated our offering.

Diversity

We participate in discussions in various formats on topics such as diversity, gender balance at different levels of management, age management, employment of people with disabilities or disadvantages and more.

Flexibility

We make sure that all our employees have the widest possible range of options for balancing their professional and personal lives, depending on their preferences. We make sure that they can get training in the areas needed to perform their job tasks or are interested in. That is why we regularly update all professional and personal development opportunities, as well as the range of training tools on offer.

EDUCATION, COMPLIANCE TRAINING

We are always committed to employee development. We have focused not only on their professional competencies, but also on their business skills and mastery of telecommuting, which many employees have often combined with distance education for their children. We also offered them courses to develop their digital literacy with an emphasis on cyber security, data protection and secure communication and information sharing. Education was delivered in all formats online and in person.

On 1st January 2021, a new course prepared by the Compliance Department titled "Stay Out of Trouble - How Not to Get Yourself and Your Company into Trouble" was launched. What are the consequences of decisions we make, or fail to make? This is the question that the course answers. Employees learned about corruption, whistleblowing and fraud, international sanctions or economic crime and competition law. Employees are guided through the topics using model situations where they can experience first-hand what it is like to take decisions as a board member, marketing, or procurement officer.

Care for employees

Throughout the year, we have been mindful of the increased levels of stress that many of our colleagues have faced. Among the most followed topics were those facilitating work-life balance or focusing on mental hygiene. Friday mornings have long belonged to online yoga classes.
Yoga
online

Anyone interested in yoga - experienced yogi or a beginner - can spend Friday morning with on-line yoga led by YOGAME studio teachers. All classes are also recorded and available in the on-line library.
On average, 20 colleagues attend each class.

Collaboration with Nevypusť duši organisation

Together with Nevypusť duši organisation we hosted online and live seminars on current topics of mental health and psychological well-being and made practical psycho-hygiene techniques, relaxation techniques and tools to recognize and work with occupational burnout available to all employees.
Over 200 employees attended the mental health seminars.

All employees who were vaccinated against Covid-19 received a special financial bonus of CZK 3,000 to their BenefitPlus card to be used for further health care.

5
PHILANTHROPY
Kooperativa Foundation

We help balance the chances of people with health impairment or who are socially disadvantaged, and we look for ways to prevent such cases. Whether they are single parents, seniors, or people with disabilities, we always try to provide meaningful, long-term assistance.

The Foundation's strategy

The Kooperativa Insurance Company Foundation is a socially responsible entity whose purpose is to invest in publicly beneficial topics and thus fulfil its mission. As the founder of the Foundation is a commercial entity, its founder is interested in ensuring that the strategic focus of the Foundation is in line with its business priorities and that these objectives and priorities complement each other effectively.

Pillars

With regard to CSR priorities, the Foundation's new focus is on prevention.

Prevention is a hallmark of the insurance company.

Prevention is always cheaper and more beneficial than dealing with the consequences of risky behaviour or neglect of a preventive approach. This brings a significant impact on improving the quality of life and society.

Prevention is the key to responsible behaviour.

Prevention is an important factor in determining the foundation's cooperation with selected entities and related activities.

Prevention is a key parameter for monitoring the impact of all foundation activities.

To align the objectives of the Kooperativa Foundation with the principles of socially responsible business of the insurance company Kooperativa as its founder, three pillars were defined that will cover most of the foundation's activities: seniors and health, innovation and environment.

Open and Closed Grants

We use a system of grant management as a mean to effectively meet our goals in cooperation with non-profit organisations, to monitor the impact of invested funds and their activities, and as a basis for meaningful reporting. Thanks to transparent rules, we can monitor and effectively evaluate results and impacts on an ongoing basis.

We use the closed grant procedure for larger-scale, long-term projects and for strategic partners. It allows us to approach a defined range of potential partners with an offer of a framework-defined cooperation. The open grant procedure is an effective way to reach a broad group of stakeholders, especially for short-term cooperation and testing of previously unknown entities. In 2021, an open grant procedure on the topic of "loneliness of the elderly and intergenerational connections" was held. The pandemic has been a major test for many of us, and for the elderly the feeling of insecurity and loneliness is a daily reality. The procedure supported 13 out of 66 applications received, totalling CZK 1 004 800. More information on the website.

Tornado in South Moravia

In the middle of the year, we started to cooperate with the VIA Foundation, which runs the Darujme.cz portal. Thanks to this, employee collections were simplified. It is now possible to donate online, to receive a donation receipt immediately, which can be applied in the tax return for the year. The option to enter a recurring donation is also available.

The very first fundraiser we held through Darujme.cz showed that we can help very quickly. Our colleagues donated CZK 1.7 million to help people affected by the tornado in South Moravia, and our holding company VIG also contributed CZK 1.7 million. In addition, the Kooperativa Foundation sent another CZK 2 million to the affected areas. Some of the employees went to the South Moravian municipalities to help physically.

Cooperation and partnership

All of our activities would not be possible without partners from the non-profit sector. They help us understand the issues of people who have not been so fortunate in life. They also provide us with tools and opportunities to support individuals and entire families and prevent further negative phenomena. During the year there have been several changes - with the Foundation's new strategy, many partnerships have been revised and some collaborations have been terminated. We have also entered in new partnerships in 2021, which we will report on soon - when we will have launched joint activities.

Assistance
Pomocné tlapky (The Helping Paws)
Paraple and StarDance
Banal Fatal

We want people with disabilities to live free and fulfilled lives in mainstream society. We focus our support on personal assistance services, social rehabilitation, advocacy activities and a volunteer program.

We have increased our personal assistance capacity from 35,000 hours to 47 000 hours. We have recruited new clients but have also increased the number of hours for existing clients, overnight and weekend assistance.

We support the idea of independent living for our clients. In 2021, we trained an additional 138 assistants. 78 people with disabilities used the social rehabilitation service.

Spot "By the power of Dita’s voice"
The organisation Pomocné tlapky raises and trains assistance dogs for disabled clients free of charge. The focus is care in the form of reconditioning sessions, practising command techniques and educating teams of clients with a dog.

We support the training of assistance dogs. We have helped with communication strategy and social media. We have contributed to the education of KOOPI puppies and many other dogs.

In order to gain more awareness, in 2005 Kooperativa linked Pomocné tlapky organisation with its sponsorship project Čechomor Kooperativa Tour.

We supported the services of the Centrum Paraple, where people with spinal cord injuries learn to regain self-sufficiency.

We were part of the StarDance for Paraple fundraiser. In 2021, the dance show raised a record-breaking amount CZK 21,525,429, the most in the show's history.

The unconventional dance evening featured not only Czech entertainment industry personalities, professional dancers, but also stars from among the clients of the Centrum Paraple.

photos from the evening

Prevention is important to us. We do not want kids to be just sitting at home. We want them to think about what they are doing. The spinal cord cannot be repaired and just a second of carelessness can change a lifetime.

As partners in the Banal Situations - Fatal Consequences program, we educated 2nd grade elementary school students about spinal cord injury prevention. We supported 59 lectures for 1820 pupils.

We showed pupils how to provide first aid in the event of a spinal injury. On this topic we also made
an educational video.

Involvement of employees

Kooperativa employees have played and continue to play an important role in our efforts to help those in need. This year, they were actively involved in helping others in Prague and the regions through volunteer days, material and financial collections and other traditional Kooperativa Foundation projects. The Foundation rewards each such effort in the form of financial collections by doubling the amount raised.

A Day for a Better Life

A total of 505 colleagues donated their Day for a Better Life in 2021 to organisations caring for the environment, social care providers for people with disabilities, children, or the elderly, as well as those active in the community life of small municipalities or districts.

Others helped online with their knowledge and experience when it was not possible to help live due to the pandemic.

The Fund for a Better Life was born out of a good deed in North Bohemia. What was originally a small collection for an electric wheelchair for the handicapped son of a Kooperativa employee became the basis of a fund that continues to help.

Any employee of Kooperativa, or a close loved one, who is in need can apply for help. The assistance can be used for medical aids, for a medical allowance for the long-term sick, or for rehabilitation after serious injuries or illnesses.

We distributed a total of 710,000 crowns among ten colleagues and their loved ones to help them deal with difficult life situations.

The Good Neighbour Programme brings together ideas on how Kooperativa and its Foundation can be useful in the places where it operates across regions. This assistance takes various forms: from material collections and financial donations, all the way to various forms of long-term cooperation.

Life is all about human stories and situations that cannot be foreseen and in which we appreciate a helping hand.

During the year, colleagues organised twelve fundraisers under the banner of Good Neighbour and together with a multiple of their proceeds by the Foundation donated CZK 959,788 to a good cause.

At the end of the year, thanks to the traditional Tree for a Better Life event, we donated in 17 locations. We were joined by Global Expert and Global Assistance.

We donated a total of CZK 576,389 and dozens of material gifts.

One of the organisations we supported was Nové háro - thanks to the CZK 150, 000 they found under our Tree for a Better Life, they can have 7 new wigs made for children and teenagers with cancer.

DEDUCTIONS FROM WAGES
In 2021, 72 employees of the Kooperativa insurance company contributed an average of CZK 250 to the Fund for a Better Life through regular payroll deductions.

MASTERS OF CZECH PAINTING - 30 YEARS OF THE COLLECTION

In 2021, the insurance company Kooperativa celebrated 30 years since its foundation. The celebration included the Masters of Czech Painting exhibition - 30 Years of the Collection, where we presented over 130 master paintings from the Kooperativa collection. The collection was established shortly after the insurance company was founded with the aim of collecting and exhibiting works by Czech artists. Currently, the collection includes over 3,000 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and other art objects.

The exhibition is accompanied by a short film documentary which can be viewed at www.koop.cz/galerie.

The exhibition was seen by a total of 7,808 visitors.
S. V. U. MÁNES GENERATION

The exhibition in the Church of St. Anne in Jablonec nad Nisou was prepared in partnership between the town of Jablonec nad Nisou, the Mánes Society of Visual Artists and the Kooperativa Insurance Company, which lent 64 paintings from its collection. The exhibition provided a comprehensive view of the individual historical sections, generational movements and individual personalities of the generations of the S. V. U. Mánes Society.

We also lent six paintings to the S. V. U. Mánes Society for the Exner - Belvedere exhibition at Prague Castle.

Social Responsibility of the Prague Agency

In 2019, the Apollon project was born with the aim of doing things DIFFERENT WAY. Not to particularly do more, but differently and smartly. Above all, work should be fun. The project was based on four main pillars: People and Communication, Processes, Motivation and Social Responsibility. For example, this video was created as part of the project. Gradually, the principles of the project were incorporated into the Agency's structures and day-to-day activities so that the project was terminated.

However, selected staff members continue to work on social responsibility and sustainability activities in their regular agenda. The Agency continues to support NGOs, volunteer days and help those in need. As well, it is significantly involved in central CSR activities such as the Run for Paraple or the material collection for the Single Mothers Club. Thanks to the Tree for a Better Life project, Agency Prague employees supported the Nové háro, Paprsek Children's Centre, Zahrada Integration Centre, Kolpingova rodina, Šafrán dětem, Klokánek and the Pečovatel Foundation with a total of CZK 60,000.

ABOUT THE REPORT

The Report on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability 2021 was prepared after a year-long collection of relevant data, consultations with all involved parts of the insurance company, and communication with relevant stakeholders. It contains information about the implementation of all parts of the CSR strategy - prevention and responsible business, ecology and sustainability, diversity and flexibility in relation to employees, and philanthropy. An extension of the report this year was a stakeholders' dialogue to help us better understand our stakeholders' approach to our sustainability and responsibility strategy. As in previous years, we based our reporting on the internationally recognised GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) methodology, in the "Core" scope.
